The Hammerhead and Kontio miniatures are very nice; very clean and well defined. The components are good, but aren’t any Alpha Strike cards for the two mechs. As good as it is, if it wasn’t for the Kontio and my desire to have all the ‘mechs, I may have skipped this box and just waited for the Core Box.

This starter box is a nice up to date introduction to Battletech in the 21st. century and with the current game setting of lots of factions to play. You get a nice map with two up to date miniatures in the new slightly larger Catalyst Games Labs scale(CGL). You get two pilot cards (but no Alpha Strike cards!) as well as the simplified mech record sheets that only show armor but not internal structure. Since Alpha Strike is also a simplified version of Battletech, I am somewhat surprised that there were no Alpha Strike cards for the two mechs(although the Hammerhead also appears in one of the Faction packs so that's not a big problem). Overall a good value for the money!

So this is the 3rd iteration of the starter box put out by CGL for the venerable armored combat system that is BattleTech. The new mechs are sharp, detailed, and ready to maul spheroids in whatever trials you want to throw them into. The new sheets and mech cards are bright and clear. Great printing all around. Only disappointment is the lack of a short story like other box sets. But if you are new to the Inner Sphere or a old grognard like me...bid for your copy now. Ares delivery this faster than Hanse Davion with a Pony Express Jumpship. GO BUY IT NOW!
