Overview:
Once again, the Stone Lion has shown its adaptability as a new Clan. Using equipment already in place, the Clan forged ahead in the creation of another Heavy OmniMech. Dubbed Haider, or “Lion” in the Terran native language of Africa, is primarily a beefed-up Summoner Omni. Pulling the production equipment from the St. Louis MechWorks for the chassis and armor, and installing it in to Industriplex Alpha was an odd step for the Clan as it seems like a waste of resources to move a portion of a production line, but this was done in part to manufacture all of their primary OmniMech chassis’ used in the invasion within the same factory so as to share some of the costs and make repairs on the battlefield easier due to the shared components.
With the decision to share components on numerous OmniMechs deemed a necessary component of manufacture to avoid any further waste, simple upgrades of the existing Summoner chassis and armor were agreed upon, and production started in early 3136 at both the main factory and the deep periphery site in preparation for the invasion. Once completed, the Haider became unexpectedly, the totem OmniMech for the Stone Lions due to the performance and design aesthetics.
Capabilities:
The Haider is a very capable OmniMech, built with a supercharger in the base chassis, it allows the OmniMech to accelerate up to 103 kph bursts which are more than capable to keep up with most Medium and some Light ‘Mechs. With 32.5 tons of pod space, and little to no heat issues to face, this seems to be tough one to crack. What is surprising is the use of an Extra-Extralight engine. Typically not seen in use at this weight, the engine did allow for a considerable bump in pod space, but at the expense of cost and being a potential Achilles heel due to the larger shielding. From what we can tell, the designers saw the possibility of this weakness, and used armoring on the engine in one of the designs, which seems to be a favorite of the Stone Lion MechWarriors. What’s not surprising is the use of a targeting computer in every variant. While unable to mount the extra protection of Ferro-Lamellor armor, the design team did use 12 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, almost maxing out the protection for its weight.
The Primary variant is armed with a single Class 20 Hyper Assault Gauss Rifle, and twin ER Large Pulse Lasers. The A variant brings to the battle twin ER PPC’s and ER Medium Lasers, in a classic over/under style mount in each arm, an additional ER Medium Laser, as well as an iATM-12. The B variant uses dual iATM-12’s, an ER PPC, and a single ER Small Pulse Laser. The C variant can jump up to 90 meters, and mounts a Light Active Probe for seeking out hidden units. Once found, that enemy target will face a Class 30 Hyper Assault Gauss Rifle, an ER PPC, and an Improved Heavy Medium Laser. The D variant is the hardest to take down. Mounting the same over/under twin ER PPC and ER Medium Laser in each arm, an ER Small Laser in the head, as well as an Angel ECM Suite, the OmniMech also makes use of armor plating around the engine shielding.
Deployment:
An OmniMech such as the Haider is found only in one place, the heart of every engagement. Popular within the Stone Lion touman, as it should be being another totem OmniMech, the Haider is wide spread. Every front line galaxy has several of this design at their disposal at any given time. The design is also found in use within the other invading Clan’s toumans, but in much lower numbers due to the totem nature of the Omni. On the battlefield, it will be leading the charge, with the Gryphon standing right next to it, supporting and defending each other.
As the other primary Heavy OmniMech in use with the Clan, you can typically bet on facing both the Haider and Gryphon together. Never one to back down from a fight, the Stone Lion MechWarriors push this design to the maximum it can handle, and always delivers the damage needed to push through any defensive formation.
